Happy Birthday Dad

It's that time of year again. When hunting season begins. The days just before Thanksgiving.
The days leading up to my Dad's birthday.
It's bittersweet for me.  Dad passed away three years ago.
We always talked on the phone on Sunday nights around 8:30. Still...if the phone rings, or if I happen to walk past the phone on Sunday nights, my heart skips a beat.
My Dad gave me this beautiful cameo on my 18th birthday....I will treasure it for as long as I live.
It sits on my desk...always close.

My granddaughter, Madison, was born on Dad's birthday. Every year she reminds us that it's not only her birthday...it's Great-grampa's as well. She has a sweet spirit...just like her Papa had.
The day Dad met Maddie, he was sooo proud. He was crying when he held her in his arms.
Where does the time go?
I miss you Dad.
Love,
Debbers

  2. My oldest son was born on my grandpa's birthday. They were both April Fools. So nice that Maddie remembers your dad by sharing her birthday even after he has traveled on.
When you walk by the phone and you feel like that, he is there.
Your cameo is so sweet and such a wonderful token of love from a father to a daughter and of the love you still share.
Keep him forever in your heart until you see him again, with both arms open, waiting just for you.
Tell Maddie happy birhtday...her sweet spirit comes from you, too...
    Hugs- Tete

  4. This post made me feel sad...I so wish we could hang on to our parents forever...you never stop needing them. My mother and I always talked on the phone in the morning before The Price Is Right came on. She never missed it. I can't take seeing that show now.

I'm glad you have another birthday to celebrate on your dad's birthday. It will remain a special day to celebrate that way.

    XO,
    Jane

  8. Aww Debbie- Now you've got me in tears. My own father passed away when I was only 21. I have missed him all these years. I always felt he was the only person that really loved me unconditionally...and I took that lesson from him. I know it is sad that he is gone for you...but what a blessing that you had him so long. Hugs- Diana

I lost my father 10 years ago and I still miss him greatly...I always tell my husband that he would have loved to have known Miss B....and I always feel bad that he didn't get to see the daughter get married...

  13. Debbie I am so sorry for your loss.I understand how it makes the holidays bittersweet. I lost my dad four days after Christmas many years ago and it still hurts when I hear the first Christmas carol of the season.
Hold on to your sweet memories and keep that gorgeous cameo close to your heart. You will see him again! Hugs and prayers, Annette

  14. Debbie,
Your cameo is so pretty and I'm glad you have those wonderful memories of your Dad. I have a cameo that was given to me when I was about 16, and it reminds me of my Mom who passed away 4 years ago.

  15. Debbie, such a sweet tribute to your father.Made me want to call my Dad .He's 80 now.Makes me sad to know someday I'll be walking by that phone ,only at 7:30 am.He's always been an early riser so if any of his kids needed to talk we could even call at 6:00am and he would be ready to make us feel better See whats wrong with me, I'm talking like He's already gone.I think I'm rehersing-thats bad.
