Pure bliss.....

What a gorgeous evening here at the lakehouse! Even with the clouds, I enjoyed myself....until the mosquitoes decided to feed.

I left the pharmacy at 4:00 today, and took the kayak out right after changing my clothes.
The water was as smooth as silk. As I glided through the water, the scent of lilacs was heavy in the air.
The holiday brought up LOTS of people! You could here voices, and laughter travel over the water.
The smell of campfires burning was welcomed while passing the homes and cottages on the canals.

People passed in boats as I listened to the soft purr of the motors. Kids peddled by in their paddle boats, making the splish-splash sound as they went by.

A pair of mallards swam in front of the kayak for most of my ride, and we heard the clink of horse-shoes being played at some of the houses we went past.

After returning, I sat on the dock and read a "flea market" magazine. What a relaxing time for me.
It was perfect!

Once the mosquitoes started their feeding frenzy, I came inside.
Now I hear the sounds of golf carts driving by. Boats are still going up and down the canals, filled with people laughing, and enjoying the night.

There is just something about the "start of summer".
I thank God for my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my nose to breath in the wonderful scents of an early summer evening.
As I close...the tree frogs are singing, and the Robins are chirping. I hear the gentle roll of thunder in the distance.
What a blessing........
I sincerely hope that you are enjoying this start to summer, and all the wonderful things it brings.
Warm hugs.
Debbie

  1. I could see, hear and smell along with you, just reading this. It takes me back to growing up on Long Lake in Alpena County. I miss the lake. Fortunately we are not far from Hubbard Lake or Lake Huron. But I miss going to sleep in the summer with the windows open, listening to the waves softly washing into shore. Thanks for bringing back pleasant memories. Hugs :)

  2. Debbie, what a beautiful evening... I loved going with you across the water and I can hear and smell all the wonderful things that colored your world tonight. Love all your photos and that robbin egg blue just pops right off of the page. Love your seating area on the dock and darn those little pests for running you inside.
I've dealt with ants, spiders, gnats and just flying little bugs all day! But it sure beats all those cold winter months!

  5. Debbie- So glad you got some time to relax after working all weekend. I think you and I seek out the silence and peacefulness of an "ordinary" day after work...it is a good way to decompress.

Your porch is beautiful-I love it-love everything you do, actually! Happy Memorial Day, sweet friend! xxoo Diana

  6. This post took me there Debbie. It is exactly how I would want to spend a quiet afternoon. Yesterday my hubs and I went up and looked at a lake cottage to rent for a week this summer. I am looking forward to it!

  8. Sounds like a perfect day! Your post brought back memories of when I was a kid and spent many weekends up at my Grandma's cabin on Bay Lake. I was practically raised in a boat and on water and I miss it so much.

  10. Oh Debbie Sweetie...
I am right there with you. I loved paddling along at that slow pace, enjoying God's beauty as we passed. Isn't there just something grand about Summer and how it brings us all outdoors and reminds us to slow down and smell the roses.

Looks as though maybe you need one of those screen porches so that you can enjoy some of those evenings as well without being ate alive from those darn mosquitoes. I bought at Wal-Mart these strechy plastic bands that you can put on your ankle or wrist, and it seems to be helping keep them off of me. Don't know if they would work for you, but I am one of those that nobody else will get bit but me when we are outdoors. Check it out, and if you can't find them, let me know and I will send you a few to give it a try.

Sounds like you had a beautiful day sweetie. So happy to hear the sounds of Family Love and Summer coming to the Lake House.

Many hugs to you and SO much love, Sherry
