Gardening...a labor of love.

Gardening is a labor of love.
It's a lot of work, yet at the end of the day you feel such a sense of accomplishment.
Although, it's a job that is never ending....for me.

Living as far north as we do, our growing season is about three weeks behind the rest of the lower peninsula of Michigan.
The plants in the garden just started to fill in from a few days of rain.
No blooms yet.

We are just finishing up our Spring flowers up here.
You can see some lilacs on the huge bush in the background.

I'm still cleaning up the cottage garden.
The bricks will meander through the garden once I finish .

This lantern will be replaced with a solar lantern.
We have one on the porch, and I just love it!!
A porcelain berry bush grows up the lattice behind the wicker settee.

I use calendula, and nasturtiums in salads.
They are great to have for summer, and add color to your garden and salads!!

Waiting for the flowers to bloom.
I am planning on hosting a tea(punch)for my granddaughters in the garden this summer when they come up to stay on their vacation.
I'm sure it will be a grand affair.
It's time to get back outside.
I can hear the weeds growing as I sit here!!
Enjoy your afternoon.
Debbie

  1. Debbie, That is a beautiful garden sign. Love all the fairies. I love seeing so many different kinds of containers. It is fun to see how clever people are when gardening. The dragonflies are wonderful. I know what you mean by weeds growing so fast. I am having a time with two of our flowerbeds. Plus I have some transplanting to do. I wish I had a Jacuzzi tub. LOL. Blessings, love you, Susie

  3. Awww...Debbie! Are SweetCheeks and I invited to your grand garden party? lol What fun those girls will have doing that!
I have not done the first thing outside yet. I have not planted anything and the only thing I did was move my rosemary plant that I overwintered inside---I moved it out to the side porch today. xo Diana

  4. Gardening can be a lot of work, but you sure do enjoy the benefits! I love going out and seeing all the new blooms each evening when I get home from work. I don't love all the weeding that needs to be done, but we all take the good with the chores! Have a great rest of your week, Cindy

  5. Debbie,
Indeed lots of work but in return for the nurturing nature you receive a bounty of beautiful flowers and plants. Somehow I just know you adore gardening and it shows.
Your garden party with your daughters sounds divine.

  14. Hi debbie, after my visit, it's a harsh reminder of all the weeding I have to do to our desert gardens and get things blooming. It's full of magic here, love your garden art, I need more of it. I think I will hang a sign out there this weekend, one expressing its French garden beds.

Your lakeside garden is awwwww! Inspiring. A quiet restful place to rest your daily thanks on.

  15. I have missed waaaay too many beautiful posts he Debbie! I get out in the garden and when I do come in, I feel so guilty sitting at the computer when I know how much work there is out there. (I know you know the feeling :))) Your garden is beautiful! and your grands will have such fun at the tea you have planned. I saw the darling faerie garden you created and I bet the loved there little bouquet of hyacinths.
I also LOVED your new bench for your living room. It is such a gorgeous piece and I salivated over every photo of your living room. It is so lovely Debbie! You have such an eye for things and so many special touches that I just wish I was sitting there on the sofa taking it all in.
Please know that I don't mean to miss your posts and that you are very dear to me. Sitting at the computer is hard for me right now because of some crazy vertigo I've been having. I sooner or later get around to my friends, but it takes me awhile.
    sending love...

  16. Your garden area is just gorgeous! I too love calendula and marigold. Haven't got any planted yet this year, as we are just starting a new garden area, and I'm trying to keep it simple this year. I know what you mean about the weeds - they just really take over quick! Enjoy every moment in the garden :)
