An old hobby.

The weather here turned colder the past few days.
I will be wanting projects to do inside, once the season changes.
I usually start making lavender sachets for gifts in the Fall.

I wanted to come up with a different idea this year when I start making the sachets.
While visiting new blogs recently, I came across The Flower Lady.
Lorraine does ribbon embroidery.
I used to do ribbon embroidery a few years ago....but got away from it.
Yesterday, I decided to bring out my supplies, and try my hand at my old hobby.

I will need more practice to pick it up again.....but after doing this one sachet, I remember how much I enjoyed working with all the silk ribbons.
The designs are endless using ribbon embroidery!
Hopefully Summer will return for a few more weeks. I'm not quite ready for it to end just yet.
At least I will have another style to add to the sachets when I start making them again when the cold weather gets here.
Have a great week!!

  3. Debbie,
How gorgeous ... I didn't realize that type of embroidery was done with silk ribbon. I remember when I was young my Mother had pillowcases with sweet flowers embroidered on the cuff ends. They were very special cases for Holidays. I love your lavender sachet you created. I imagine it takes much time to do.
It's been so hot in Philadelphia still in the 90's. This year we are experiencing a true Indian Summer. It's been hard to get into an Autumn mindset!

  4. What a wonderful idea---I find working with a needle and thread so relaxing during the colder months. I can't wait to see how the sachets turn out although I'm sure they will be gorgeous.

We are expecting 90's next week although it's 63 right now. Go figure!

  5. Your sachets look so pretty. I love the scent of lavender and what better place to put it in than a sachet that you can put in your drawers or just lay on a table. We are having some cool days right now and I am enjoying them.

  6. Oh my gosh Debbie, that is so lovely!!! It looks very tricky to do but you seem to be a natural at it:) I have a bit of a sachet obsession and have them hung around our little nest...lavender's truly one of the best scents in the world!

  8. From the looks of it, you have not lost your touch in ribbon embroidery.
The sachet pillow looks sweet smelling and so cottage chic to look at.
This is one art I have never tried my hand at, yet I do have plenty of silk ribbon I would use on holiday tags, I just love it's limp weinkled feel to it.

Not sure how much more perfect your art could improve, it's looks amazing from what you shown so far.
As for the heat of summer, we too have had a few cooler days, over cast in grey sky's, but not like you with wanting a few more weeks of warmth! I and kissing it good bye! :)
Bring on the cold and I will be a lot more happier.

Love creating during the winter, it just feels so right.

See you soon with piles of lavender sachets I'm sure of that :)

  11. Those are beautiful. You must have a lot of patience.

It's turned cold here in Chicago too - low 60's the past few days.
