Screen doors on bedrooms???

It's still too chilly to be working in the gardens, so we are working on the inside....waiting for the wood to arrive for the living room floor.
The upstairs hallway is VERY tiny.
Too open it up, and give it a "cottage" feel, I wanted to add screen doors to the bedrooms.
Plus, it will help with air circulation in the hot summer months.

The screen door is on, with the addition of a vintage table cloth for some added sweetness.

The Mister will be changing the wood trim around the screen door to match what is around the six panel door to the left (the bathroom door).

I had saved a drawer pull from one of the dressers from my girl's bedroom set, (when they were young).
I've been wanting to use it somewhere in the house, and this happened to be the perfect spot.
It now graces the door in the guest room...sigh.

The other room will also have a new screen door, and trim very soon.
I also have a pretty chandelier picked out for the hall.
One thing at a time.....

Screen doors on bedrooms aren't for everyone.
For me, it just adds to the "cottage charm" here at the Lakehouse.
I'd like to thank everyone for your prayers, and kindness during my illness.
I am on my way to wellness.
Blessings.

  1. Hi Debbie
I LOVE the screen doors!!!! I have never seen that done but I am just loving it. I adore the little curtain on top. Makes it looks so sweet. I don't have a regular door on my art room, its a french door with glass. But now that I have seen yours. I want to have a screen door on mine. How creative and beautiful. Glad you are feeling so much better. Been praying every day for you

  3. You know Debbie I find this post so charming! I have never heard of someone putting screen doors on bedrooms for Summer and it is so enchanting. There's nothing as pleasant than hearing a screen door make it closing announcement "hey officially summertime"! I love the delicate nature of the added fabric and I just find your drawer pull adorably cottage welcoming.
I hope you are feeling much better and enjoyed a wonderful Easter.
    Sending love,
    Vera

  7. That is an unusual idea, first time I've ever seen screen doors on a bedroom. I can see though that it would help with the air flow and it is very decorative. Nice you are getting so much done on the inside. And so glad to hear you are getting better !

  8. This is the cutest idea ever Debbie!!! I absolutely love it! It makes your guest room seem like its own little guest cottage:) And being able to have the breeze come through is an added bonus. I'm definitely going to have to look into this for when we have our own place:) Being just the 2 of us, we always have our doors open anyway and if privacy's an issue then a pretty curtain tucked to the side and easily pulled back would be perfect! Love it!

  12. Debbie, I love that screen door touch. I have a screen door too...it was so the cat would not lay on the bed. Or get in bed at night and scare me. Your door is prettier. Hope you are going to get nice weather soon. it is raining now and to turn cooler...when is spring coming for good...hopefully before the heat of summer. :):) Blessings my friend. Love you, xoxo,Susie

  13. It looks cute with the sloped ceilings, and it suits it. That's a great way to handle the circulation, and I also like Susie's idea of keeping the cats out at night. :) If privacy were an issue, though it sounds like it is not, you could just hang a curtain rod over and to the side for when needed. xoxo Su

  17. Hi Debbie, praying that your feeling truly much better. Now on the screen door, many years ago I saw a home who cottaged it all out with a screen door to a bedroom just as you have done here and had always been charmed by it, yet it never worked for doorways in my home. As for this sweet guest room it's perfect, and it looks perfectly adorable.

I always wanted to put old glass doors on some of the bedrooms in my home, finding the right ones is the key, then a pull down shade or a curtain panel would be the next step to some privacy.
The office bedroom could handle a glass door with out the need of privacy.
Your screen door is inspiring me to do some door changes around here!

    Take care dear
See you soon, you never let us down with great inspiring ideas and projects :)

  18. What a sweet idea, Debbie. PERFECT for a cottage home. Now, does that mean I have to leave my TV off at night when I sleep there? lol You know Columbo and I go to bed together every night--until I nod off.

That should be great to help with the air flow in the summer-those upper rooms always seem to collect the heat and hold it. You are one smart cookie.

Love the sound of the spring pulling the door shut-reminds me of my childhood. xo Diana
