Slow 2014 down, and grab some joy!!!

Here we are, a week into the new year....a whole week has gone by as we forge ahead into the year 2014.
A  lot of people have the year mapped out for themselves. They've made resolutions, and promises. There are expectations to be met.
Restrictions to live by, and pressure to measure up to a standard set too high.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to improve oneself.
It just seems wise to keep a reasonable perspective when starting any self-improvement regime.

We don't all have the same physical abilities.
If we train with a friend that is more athletic, or more advanced than we are, we will expect too much out of ourselves, and become discouraged.

Find a training partner that is suitable to your work-out level.
You will find your sessions less frustrating.

When dieting....choose a program suited to your needs!!! NOT your sisters, or your best friends.
What works for one person, doesn't always work for another.
Buying the food programs through the mail can become quite expensive. Make sure you check them out thoroughly.

There are quite a few options to quit smoking out there.
Don't give up if the first option fails!!!

Be patient.
Take one day at a time.
Change isn't always about losing something, or giving something up.
Sometimes it's about "finding" something.
It can be about relationships.
ALL kinds of them!!!
Mending them, building them, improving them, starting them....you be the judge.

2013 went by way too fast for me.
2014 started out with my 60th birthday, and a surprise weekend planned by my three daughters.
They took me to a Bed & Breakfast in Frankenmuth. Paid for my meals. Gave me a basket with my "favorite things" tucked inside....the wine bottle had the invitation printed on the label(which I received the weekend before the event). Took me shopping, and made sure I bought everything I wanted!! Took me out for a wonderful dinner, and treated me so kind.I felt very loved.
For me...that was the perfect way to start the new year.
I wasn't worried about any resolutions. I just wanted to enjoy "time". The hours spent with my girls were the best of 2014 so far!!!!
That will be my focus this year. Enjoying "time". As each day comes, hopefully I will remember to grab the joy in it, and hold it tight...because time goes by way too fast!!!
Slow down, and enjoy life! Make this the year you take some time to feel some joy!

  1. Happy Belated Birthday Debbie ~ What a wonderful and well deserved gift your sweet girls gave you, spending time with them was a gift all in itself! 2. What a wonderful way to spend your birthday, Debbie! Your girls are just so thoughtful! Love the creativity that went in to their plans for your special day. ♥ I haven't had time to stop and think about my resolutions yet. I think there are way too many that I could embrace....but never carry through with. lol For now though, I think I'll just stick with what's working for me at the moment....simplify and be grateful! Hope you're staying warm and toasty up there, girlie. We're still digging out down here...and are reaaaaaaallly ready for spring.

  4. Happy birthday Debbie!! It sounds like you had the perfect getaway gift with your daughters.

All good advice too. I say, do what you can to the best of your ability and if you screw up- who cares? Yesterday I ate a donut, a candy bar and a piece of pineapple upside down cake. Totally out of character for me, but once in awhile I go on tilt. LOL... XO

  5. First of all, I love all your photos...so peaceful. Love the decor, I see your joy there. Love that your girls did all of that for you and enjoyed the photos of you all on fb! What a group gathering. You have some very wise words here. Love them all. Time is one thing we can never get back, enjoy yours this year. Love you and happy birthday. You look so good for 60 and I thank God he let us keep you a while longer.

  8. Happy Birthday, my dear friend! Your daughters are incredible. So glad you enjoyed your weekend!!

Great advice...so true to what I have been thinking. So much of the time we are pushing ourselves to do things to better ourselves, yet we are miserable doing them. We have to slow down and be realistic. What works for the next guy may not work for us.

So glad your New Year has started off so well. Much love to you!

  12. Debbie, This is such an encouraging post with such good wisdom laced throughout. It's worth reading more than once!
Reading about your daughters special gifts to you reminds me of the scripture that says, "Your children will rise up and call you blessed" (my paraphrase). Your girls blessed you! What a beautiful memory you will have.
I don't always comment on your posts, (because I usually read them with my phone, and my phone likes to decide what and when I can comment ;) but I want you to know that I enjoy them.
    Be blessed,

  14. How true, how wise you are. Relationships and time and God - we must not let trivial things get in the way of what is truly important.
