A trip to the greenhouse.

Good Tuesday to you.
It's a day of warmth, and sunshine here at the Lakehouse.

I went to the greenhouse to see what they will be offering this year.
The hanging baskets look lovely, as usual.

I am looking forward to start bringing them home.
I will try to wait a few more days, giving them some time to get acclimated to being in the greenhouse first, and then moved outdoors.

There were some gorgeous rose bushes there also.
I wish our growing season wasn't so short here.

Since it is....I will wait a little longer.

I'll keep my eye on the weather reports.
If the night time temps will stay above freezing, I'll be taking a few trips to the greenhouse to pick up the many hanging baskets, and annuals that I so love having here at the Lakehouse.
And more rose bushes, hydrangeas, clematis, purple coneflower, veronica, lavender, and whatever else I can fit in the back of the truck!
Enjoy your week!

The perfect vanity.

I am soooo happy today!
Mr. Lakehouse and I drove a few miles south of here to pick up the shabby chic vanity I put on "hold" a couple of weeks ago.

The shop is called, Simply Charmed, and it's located in Gladwin, Michigan.
The owner is a real sweet gal. She re-does the furniture herself!

I've looked for a vanity for a long time, and when I saw this one, I knew it was perfect for our bedroom!

Yup...I'm lovin' it!!!

Roses, and smiles.

It's Wednesday evening here at the Lakehouse.
I'm waiting for Spring to arrive.

It's still below freezing at night, and we wake up to a dusting of snow in the morning.

I am so anxious to get outside, and dig in the dirt.
I miss my roses, and all of the other flowers in the gardens.

The water in the canals is so high, it's ready to come over the sea walls.
I guess we won't be complaining about low water levels this summer.

Until the warm weather finally arrives, I'll be going to the market to pick up more roses for the house.
I'm so happy I can have flowers in the house!
Even if they don't come from my gardens.
What would we do without fresh flowers?
I hope it's warm where you are!
Buy yourself some flowers today....just because. I'm sure it will make you smile.

Flour sack towels vs bar towels

Good Monday to everyone.
I trust your weekend was enjoyable.

In my last post, I shared about the garlands I was making out of bar towels.
People asked what a bar towel was.
I should have said I used a flour sack towel.
They are more of a gauze-type of material.
I hope that helps any of you interested in making a garland like Sissie's from Sissie's Shabby Cottage.

Sissie uses strips of lace for her garlands, and other fabrics, as well. They are so cute!!! Go over and visit her blog. She's an amazing lady!
I just wanted to clarify the "towel thing".
Have a lovely week.
Take just a few minutes today to sit, and enjoy something....a favorite magazine, family photos, Bible verses, a cup of tea or coffee, a phone call to a friend....something that brings a smile to your face, and joy to your heart.
Enjoy.

A fun garland.

Good Saturday morning to you.

Just a short post today.
I'm headed out the door to pick up more bar towels.
I'm tearing them in strips to make garlands.
I saw them on Sissie's blog, and fell in love with them.

This one turned out really full.
I like it hanging on the little mantle in the bedroom.
It adds to the romantic feel in there.

I'm making some to use as valances for the sun porch windows.
They will be "less-full".
Thank you Sissie for inspiring me to make something for my home.
Something fun, and a little whimsical.
Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!
Do something nice for yourself today....buy something that will bring a smile to your face....even if it's just some lip gloss. Enjoy.

Spring cleaning, and giant dust balls.

I've been in one of those spring cleaning modes.
The kind where you move furniture around.
You pull furniture away from the walls, and you see things you wish you didn't know were "back there".

Like dust balls as big as tumbleweeds.
God could make a village out of all the dust underneath just one cupboard in my dining room.

How often do I clean the floors?  you ask?
Well...obviously NOT often enough, underneath this big, heavy farm cupboard!!!!!

I push the dust mop under there, but evidently the dust ball moves itself to the back wall.
I am NOT kidding! This thing was huge!
You know, at night, when you think you see something out of the corner of your eye? scooting across the floor?  I bet it was that big ball of dust!!!!!
It was probably rolling around the dining room floor, collecting more particles...trying to make itself bigger.
It was just waiting for the right moment when it could make it's escape out the back door.
But I fooled it. I decided to move the cupboard, and I found it....spoiling it's plan!!!!! HA!
Now if I could just find all of those socks that seem to get out of the dryer~~~~~~

Sunshine, and flowers.

The sun is shining here at the Lakehouse!
Yes!
There is finally open water on the lake.

On my way to a doctor's appointment this morning, I saw dozens of Robins hopping around all over the place...a sure sign of Spring here at the lake!

I actually saw some plants starting to poke their sweet little heads up through the dirt, greeting the sunshine with their fresh green leaves.

It won't be long, and I'll be bringing fresh cut roses in from my gardens to fill pitchers, and vases...filling this old lakehouse with the fragrance that warms my heart, and soul.

I will also be harvesting flowers to hang from the beams to dry for wreaths, and arrangements for this old lakehouse.
Giving it a feeling of warmth, and beauty through the holidays, and those long winter months when the snow covers the flowers that I love so much during the warm weather, and sunshine.
I hope the sun is shining where you are today.
If not...go buy some flowers for yourself. Make a tussy-mussy, and hang it on a door knob. When you walk past the door, I'm sure it will put a smile on your face. You deserve it.

The sun porch.

There is STILL snow on the ground here at the Lakehouse, and ice on the canals...but I am determined that Spring will be here eventually.
So, today I worked on the sun porch.

Since the house is on the market, I wanted to make it look as inviting as possible.
A bottle of wine with two glasses would definitely say sit down, and relax to me!

Look at the snow!!! Ugh!!

I'm hoping the next time we have a showing, the grass will be showing, and the waves will be rippling across the water, and the gulls will be calling.

If we don't have a showing soon, Mr. L and I might just open that bottle of wine, and enjoy the sun porch ourselves.
Uh huh....sounds good to me!
Have a happy week everyone!

Waiting for Spring weather, and an old hobby.

I don't know how the weather is where you are, but it's cold here at the Lakehouse.
We woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground this morning.
Mother Nature must be in "mental-pause".

I've decided to go back to an old hobby.
I used to have a dried flower business.
I grew my own flowers, harvested, and dried them.
I used them to make wreaths, swags, and other dried floral arrangements for clients, and home decor stores.

I won't be going into business this time.
I'll just be using the flowers for my own personal use.

Mr. L. hung oak strips on the ceiling with tea-cup hooks  in them so I could hang the bunches of flowers to dry. Once the hooks were filled, it looked like a drying barn in the house!!
It was beautiful!

I guess I need something to do while waiting for the house to sell.
We keep having people coming through...but no offers as of yet.
It's getting me down.
I know...it just takes one person..the right person.
In the meantime, I will try to keep myself busy with things to do this spring (if it ever gets here)!!!
I am anxious to plan the window boxes, but it's just too cold to even think about that right now.
I'm still looking for an antique table for the dining room, and also a vintage rug for underneath.
I hope everyone in blogland is well.
Thank you for stopping by.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
