Using the weather to our advantage.

It's still snowing here in northern lower Michigan.
The temps are struggling to get out of the teens during the day.
This weather was great for our trip down state last weekend.
It was perfect for snow-boarding, and skiing with the kids.
It also works out well for getting things done inside.

I took a lot of the crystals off from the dining room light we took down last week.
I've been using them to decorate with here, and there...as you can see in the first photo.
While down state, I went to my favorite antique mall with my youngest daughter, Melissa.
I didn't buy much, but I did find some small treasures to bring home with me.
An ironstone plate, two pitchers, a couple of doorknobs, and a few white pearl buttons.

Melissa and I also stopped at the Home Goods store so I could look around.
We don't have anything near our cottage, other than a Wall Mart. When I travel down to see the girls, it's always a treat to shop at the home decor stores, and specialty shops.
I'm supposed to visit with my niece on Saturday. After that, it will be back to working on the bathroom.
It seems to be taking quite a while to get that room finished.  I guess all of this adverse weather is a good thing for us here at the Lakehouse. It gives us more time to work inside the house.
Enjoy the rest of your week!!

  1. Debbie, Some times it nice to just get some new treasures. I like small things too. I have a few buttons in jars. So nice you got to spend time with your children and grandchildren. I think things are starting to look up around our area. I sure never got done all the things one thinks they will. Hope your week is fun and productive. Blessings to you dear friend, xoxo,Susie

  2. I'm so glad that the weather cooperated and that you guys were able to get down state, Debbie. :) Sounds like you had another fun shopping trip, too! :) I'm still in withdrawal. Haven't found the time yet to hit the local TJMaxx or Home Goods. But....next week is supposed to be close to 40! Might be time to dig myself out of these snowbanks and hit the road! lol

  3. Glad you were able to get away and visit your family. We still have some snow on the ground here, but it is slowly melting away. Heard we might get a little frozen mix this weekend though.

  4. Hi Debbie, it's so nice that you had time to enjoy family and fun with your beauty here.
Love the layers and layers of white as well as the unexpected dish full of vintage stained buttons.
There is something beautiful when creating in the calm of things.

  6. I am glad you got to visit some little places and Home Goods, Debbie. I am trying to embrace this weather and keep busy. I have lots going on besides just the normal things so I have been too busy to even think too much about the weather the last couple of weeks.

I bet you can't wait for your wonderful Spring gardens./flowers though- xo Diana

  7. Hi Debbie,
    Pretty, pretties!
I'm inside working on the things I'd never have time to do in the summer. But still wishing it would warm up so I can tackle some the the larger projects. :)
    Have a happy one.

  9. This lovely collection will help just the time until we can see all the flowers again. I have the hope of temps all week above freezing. But I live in MO.... not as many deep snows as you... live your results of the shopping trip....

  10. Oh, that white door knob is gorgeous. The house I grew up in had huge doorknobs that looked like diamonds. I always loved the look of those too.

  12. Hi Debbie , sounds like you had a fun time in the snow with your family ....this time last year we had thick snow but it's a different story this year (thankfully). I love it to snow in December but I soon tire of it and long for the warmer, longer days of spring and summer ! Love all your treasures that you brought home....enjoy your time with your niece..

  14. What wonderful treasures you found. I love the chandelier chain. I am hoping with our warm up today the snow will melt and go away for good this year, but you are right, having the snow does help for getting more done inside. Thank you for your wonderful comment and for visiting. Alaina

  16. We still have the cold weather here too, but no snow, today it rained.
Love you ironstone and the door knobs, when we were in N.C. I was in an antique shop and they had a few but were to expensive for me...love yours!

    1. Hi Kim~we are at Houghton Lake. The largest inland lake in Michigan. We got four inches of snow last night, and even more today. Two of my daughters live in Howell(close to you). Another daughter lives in Grand Ledge. You guys got as much, if not more, snow than we did this year.
I do enjoy my job...most of the time. I usually work three days a week(which I prefer). I don't like working more than that a week. I have issues with anemia...so if I work more hours, it always catches up to me.
Hopefully this cold weather will end soon, and the Robins, and other birds will be able to survive the rest of the spring season.
Thank you for stopping by, Kim.
      I always enjoy your visits.
