Bi-folds as shutters.

This is what I am doing today.....
Notice the big gaping hole that we have for a doorway between the dining room and living room?
I've added salvage pieces to it over time, but never liked how huge, and square it looked.

My daughter, Melissa, gave me these bi-fold doors a while back.
I've been moving them from place to place here at the Lakehouse.
Today, being stuck inside because of more rain, the ADD was kicking into hire gear.

I folded the doors and am using them as shutters on each side of the doorway.
I can open them up for a different look, although they are not wide enough to meet in the middle.

It gives each room a cozier feel.
I might take them down and paint them white, but for now I like the creamy color.
There will be one little problem.....the hubby.
He is like a giant tank!!!
Seriously.....he is like a wrecking ball!!!
UGH......
You have NO idea.
How do I keep things white, you ask?   BLEACH!!!  lots of bleach.
I also have a nail gun, and a case of glue on hand.
I am moving a few other things around today, also....but I'll save those for another post.
Have a lovely evening!
Debbie

  1. I like how the shutters look Debbie. I have to laugh about hubby being a human wrecking ball....I have one of those too. He seems to fling his arms when walking through a room and takes other things right along with him! LOL!
I have a big opening between the foyer and the living room and now you have given me an idea.

  5. Debbie, your shutters are gorgeous!
What a great way to repurpose bifold doors. What's that saying about a bull in a china shop?!
I would leave them cram, love the contrast.

  6. Debbie, I like the shutter ideas. You know I love the look of a wispy cloth hanging by wide doorways...like the French with their heavy draped doorways. I love that look. I took the bathroom door off a powder room in the back bedroom and hung a velvet drape with a shimmery cloth...I love it. No one sees anyone in the little room if they use it. They can close the bedroom door. Blessings for some better weather. Today was awesome here. Love you my friend, xoxo,Susie

  9. Very pretty! I like the texture that shutters bring to a space. We had heavy rains for two days but it looks to be a cooler and beautiful day today. At least you got some creative ideas going in the rain.

  10. You were certainly making full use of a rainy day. The doorway definitely looks much improved. We are to be cooler here today and I'm hoping to get outside and do a few things there. Maybe some of my energy will reappear. Hope you have a fantastic Friday!

This summer has been a lot of work repairing things after the hail storm this spring. I think of you often and I will be seeing you one day...(smiles)

  13. What a fantastic idea that was! I agree, it makes it look much cosier this way:) LOL at your hubby being a wrecking ball...mine's the same:) He's over 6 feet tall and about 230 lbs. so he's walked into and knocked several things over but he's always nice about it.
Have you ever tried White Brite? It's a powder you add to your whites when washing them and it really takes the dingies out without thinning out the fabric! I use it for my sofa slipcover every time I wash it:) Have a lovely weekend Debbie!

  14. Hi Debbie, your shutters are gorgeous. Love the way you have styled your space here and the flow throughout. I had to smile about the wrecking ball. I tell my hubby he's like a bull in a china shop when he gets clumsy. LOL The shutters look prefect in cream too and add a nice soft contrast. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs, cm
