A change of heart.

Fall has arrived here at the lake.
With the change of seasons, comes a change in my heart.
I have accepted the fact that we will be living in our romantic cottage for another Winter.
Instead of feeling sad, and depressed....I'm actually experiencing a sense of joy.

Something I haven't felt for quite a while.
Since the house has not sold...we will change the things we have put off doing for so long around here.
I'm starting out slow, and simple.
The first thing I did was change two chairs in the living room.
They are just extras....but what a difference they make!!!

My youngest daughter uses these chairs in her dining room, and they look wonderful!
I chose them for my shabby chic living room, and love them just as much in there for extra seating.

The next thing on our list of "to do's" is the driveway.
That's going to be a "biggie" for us.
In a recent comment to my post on taking the house off the market, a sweet blogger said something about falling in love with our cottage all over again.
I feel like that's what is happening....God is keeping us here for a reason.
I might as well enjoy being here, on the water(where I've always wanted to live), while I am here...right?
This place might not be the most beautiful house on the lake, or even in the neighborhood....but it's the place I can decorate the way I want to make it feel like home.
For me...that's what it's all feels like home.

  1. Your home is beautiful!!!!! I agree God has wanted you to stay in your lovely home.
Enjoy it and I look forward to pictures of your sweet nesting place.
    Suzann ~xoxo~

  2. I love your home - it radiates LOVE! Perhaps the universe is telling you something and THIS is where you are meant to be for now! I would love to live on the water too, so enjoy it and revel in the joy that is your home!

  3. Your home is beautiful and that first photo is especially appealing. The new chairs are lovely. Enjoy this Fall at your lake.

  5. You have always been so very happy watching the sparkling water outside your windows, Debbie. You have transformed that little house into a sweet shabby chic cottage full of warmth and love. It it so YOU! :) Enjoy it for now...until God moves you along a different path toward a new home in His time.

I must ask you where you bought those chairs. They are just beautiful!

    Love & hugs ~

  9. Debbie,
there's a time for everything. About 15 years ago, I started wanting a bigger house; we lived in a wonderful older neighborhood, but our house was so tiny and when our grandchildren started coming, I knew we needed a bigger house for when they came to spend the night with us. But my husband was so against us selling and moving and leaving our beloved neighborhood. For most of those years, he balked at it. Finally, I prayed that God would make me thankful and content where we were and little by little, I started falling in love with our house again and thanking God for it. And one day, out of the blue, my husband said, "do you want to go looking for a house this weekend?" I believe God's timing is perfect and sometimes he puts obstacles in our way (my husband, in my case)until He gets ready to do what He wants to do. We sold our house just before the realtor's contract expired and got what my husband had said from the beginning he thought we should ask for. God opened a wonderful door for us in a small, but growing country town and we had our house built from the ground up. God is so good, He not only sold our house for us, but we got a brand new, big house with all the amenities we wanted!
I think God wanted me to be thankful and content with what I already had and then He would bless us in a bigger way.
Hang on, Debbie, when God's ready for you to move, you will know it and everything will work out for you!
Sorry for the long comment :)

    1. Thank you Mary, for your encouraging words. Whatever God's plan is for my life, I need to trust Him, and be thankful for each day that He blesses me with. You are right...everything will work out according to His plan.
I'm happy that things worked out the way you wanted them to in the end. God is good!

  10. Debbie...I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling joy!! Your home is so beautiful....and I can see all the love that you put into it!

  11. Amen, Debbie- Good for you!!!! I love that you have fully embraced living where you are. Where your heart is your true home is also. The best part is that you are happy (in your heart) and that is what life is all about. xo Diana

  12. Debbie, you said something that connected with me. You said that you might as well enjoy living at the lake, since that was something that you've always wanted.
Thank you for the reminder. I've always wanted to live by a lake, but we are still on our 10 acres in the country. There are times, when I look around at our beautiful property, and realize that I'm so busy wanting the lake, that I'm missing what blessings we already have. What you said about your cottage, is the same thing I can say about our home. It may not be the nicest home in the neighborhood, but it's ours. I need to give thanks to God, and trust Him to place us where He knows we need to be.
    Blessing to you,

  13. A good lesson for me today, Debbie. About being happy wherever you are, no matter what.

  14. Hi Debbie ~ I love seeing your sweet, cozy cottage.... I have been away all summer from blogging, so I find such comfort & Joy in seeing your current & catching up on several previous posts. Going into winter with a renewed sense of Joy is a very good thing ~ Blessings to You and your sweet home....

  15. Home is where ever you are...and you love the water...and it doesn't have to be the best house in the world, it just has to be yours. Its the safe place where you dream, love and live. Its the shelter from the storms in life. Peace comes from within, not where you are. If you find that happy place inside, anywhere is home. Love this little place just as long as you can, for one thing is certain, things change. It may be your last winter here, or you may have many more, but you must live in today. This is where you are. Bloom, sweetie, where you are planted. Leave the rest to God. Love you.
