I've been seeing spring blooms on some of the other blogs that I visit.
It gives me hope that all of this snow, and cold will soon end, and we too will see what is hidden beneath the frozen earth.
sigh.....
Okay.....this is so not me.
Color.
A friend of mine had a bolt of material, and was willing to share.
I've been wanting to make chair pads for the dining chairs ever since I got them.
I was planning on doing white covers.
However......the hubster is NOT a delicate man.
He is more like a man that lives in the woods kind of guy.
Needless to say, white was out!!!
I didn't really want ruffles, because I love the detail on the chairs.
So this is what I came up with.
The fabric is very heavy...like upholstery.
It's really stiff, so it's not laying on the seat quite right for now.
The ruffles on the table runner are also stiff!! lol
I used what was left from the vintage runner used for the hearts (see previous post) on this runner for a little bit of a vintage look.
As you can see, the sides of the chair pads are not laying down because they are too heavy, and STIFF!!! Hopefully they will be okay with time.
I'm not sure I like this look, since I'm so used to "white".
I plan to make a couple of pillows for the crib, and also a bedskirt for it. Maybe to tie it all together?
I just don't want too much color in here. Ya know what I mean?
One more thing crossed off the winter to do list!!! Yay!Have a good week!

I love toile. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love is the delicate stitching you have on the table runner towards the ends with the hearted flower. You have always been one for very fine details, something I so love about you. Everything down to the finest details which leaves the done project perfect, just like you. Is there nothing you can't do?
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful Deb, you sew so nice they look like they were ordered from an expensive online store!
ReplyDeleteJust getting out my fake forsythia has perked me up! I love your chair pads and the color too.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it, Deb. The material will calm down after a bit. Try throwing your runner in the dryer with a soaking wet towel and it might take some of the "starch" out of the material...although I know it is not really starch. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't think that is too much color at all. You've got dark knobs on some of your furniture and chalkboards. I always think of black as just a non-color anyway. GREAT job. xo Diana
Beautiful job on the chair-pads! They look great!
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteI am in awe and loving your sewn slips. Not too much color ... It defines and elevates your decor. Who doesn't love toile. Debbie your sewing, your added tonal contrast and your enhancements totally rocks!!! You go girlfriend!

Vera
Hi Debbie, Did you put a layer of stuffing between the front and backs? I love that material. I have been working on an old chair and need a cushion for it, but I didn't know if one should be stuffed or not. I love the ties too.Happy Monday..Judy
ReplyDeleteI love toile, and think this fabric looks so pretty on your chairs!! I wonder if you lightly misted the fabric with watered down liquid fabric softener, if that might help. I think having a bit of color will grown on you, and as you said, you can always sew some pillows to tie everything in. It looks lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI love Toile and your choice is really pretty. It all looks so great.

The chair pads are really pretty!! Love them.

ReplyDeleteI really like that fabric - I think it was a great choice. xo

Hi Debbie, Oh I love it. Really it is gorgeous. I am a big fan of toile and especially black which I have in my house and black in our master. Your chair pads are beautiful and the table runner is such a nice touch to complete your look. I made a long skirt for my studio art table and it was the same stiff fabric. It did soften over time and hangs nicely.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented and this turned out beautifully.
Hugs, CM
Hey There, I knew I saw this post and I am so glad I went back to see this!
ReplyDeleteI think the fabric will just give the room a POP and it will give the room a very rich touch! And you are right about white seat cushions! Just a thought, you might want to spray those seat cushions with some Scotch Guard spray. My Guys just recovered mine in November. You would scream if you saw my wild colors...
Loved this so much! I also think the stiffness just, starts to fade as you use it!
Love Ya
