Waiting for Spring weather, and an old hobby.

I don't know how the weather is where you are, but it's cold here at the Lakehouse.
We woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground this morning.
Mother Nature must be in "mental-pause".

I've decided to go back to an old hobby.
I used to have a dried flower business.
I grew my own flowers, harvested, and dried them.
I used them to make wreaths, swags, and other dried floral arrangements for clients, and home decor stores.

I won't be going into business this time.
I'll just be using the flowers for my own personal use.

Mr. L. hung oak strips on the ceiling with tea-cup hooks  in them so I could hang the bunches of flowers to dry. Once the hooks were filled, it looked like a drying barn in the house!!
It was beautiful!

I guess I need something to do while waiting for the house to sell.
We keep having people coming through...but no offers as of yet.
It's getting me down.
I know...it just takes one person..the right person.
In the meantime, I will try to keep myself busy with things to do this spring (if it ever gets here)!!!
I am anxious to plan the window boxes, but it's just too cold to even think about that right now.
I'm still looking for an antique table for the dining room, and also a vintage rug for underneath.
I hope everyone in blogland is well.
Thank you for stopping by.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
xxoo

  1. That is so neat you are getting back to working with dried flowers, I can't wait to see your creations! I always loved making wreathes & swags too from what I grew. You never know, the next person to view your home just may decide to buy it:) I've heard that baking cookies just before a showing helps, makes the house smell yummy. Oh, and turning on the lights, makes it even more welcoming.

  2. OMG! I am so jealous!!! You used to have a dry flower business, I think that is so cool and I envy you that you know how to dry flowers. I bet you made beautiful dried wreaths and things. That would be something right up my alley, I worked in a plant nursery for 10 years and I loved it. I wish I could get back to gardening again, I miss it.
Your house will sell, it just takes the right person. We did this insane crazy thing and bought this house in AZ, it had been on the market for a year. Don't even think about it or worry about it, it will happen when you least expect it!

  3. How interesting that you use to dry flowers to sell. I use to do more of that with herbs and flowers in the 1990's and somehow got away from it?

  4. Love the look of the drying flowers. Could we talk you into doing a post on how to properly do that? I'd love to hear about it. Your house will sell - I'm keeping you in my prayers. :-)

  5. This sounds like a very fulfilling hobby, Debbie. They look so pretty drying in your house, too, so that's another bonus. I just mentioned on my blog today how I order dried flowers on eBay. Just simple bunches of hydrangeas, lavender, pussy willow, whatever I can find for a good price. I really prefer dried flowers over silk with plastic stems and I was at a loss in finding a source until I went to eBay. I can never have enough! I truly hope this gives you pleasure and occupies your mind during this stressful time.

We had warm weather today but very windy, then it rained. I guess that's pretty much spring if it just lasts.

Hope you're having a good weekend.

    XO,
    Jane

You know, I just realized that I owe you an email- I have been so crazy busy that I don't know if I am coming or going...and her it is 2am and I am playing catch-up if that tells you anything. Have a great weekend- xo Diana
