Inspiration from "Romantic Country".

Good Saturday morning to you!
While working on projects here at Lakehouse, I decided to take a break, and look through the latest "Romantic Country" magazine.
There were lots of design ideas in this issue.
The image on the left gave an idea for lace in place of a mirror on a vintage medicine cabinet.
I LOVE the photo, but what really caught my eye was the heart hanging on the knob of the cabinet.

Making hearts is not something I do very well, but after seeing the one in the photo, I thought I would give it a try.

Mine did not turn out as vintage looking as the one in the magazine, but I am okay with the end result.

I used linen from an old runner, a doily similar to the one in the photo, and some of the crinkled seam binding that is always tucked in a drawer here at the lakehouse.
I truly love the original heart in the magazine photo, and would like to give credit to the person that made it. The only names associated with the image are Fifi, and Mark.
So now I will get back to sewing the chair covers for the dining chairs.
Have a super Saturday!
Debbie

  3. Your hearts are every bit as nice as the one in the magazine. What a great idea! The weather is not good for much but it is good for staying in and sewing.

  6. Happy Saturday sweet Debbie,
I like your hearts better, crinkled seam binding is a staple in our home too. If you would want to age yours a bit (personally I think they are perfect) would be to put strong tea in a spray bottle and mist away. I love your choice of the Flax linen, and the taupe and pink seam binding is delightful.
Sewing slip covers for your dining room chairs ... so looking forward to your reveal of them. I'm posting on Tuesday with lots of photos in our row-home, I think we all have the Spring bug to enhance our nest.
    Sending love,

  7. The hearts you fashioned are adorable! I would think the hardest part would be to find the heart shaped doilies. Even the hanging ribbon has a wonderful detail. I know I would enjoy making a project like this. Beautiful! (And so nice to have a visit from you!)

  8. I adore these pin cushion style hearts. Debbie in the 90's I made them as well for a shop, I use to do so many hearts I think this is why I rarely will work with hearts. Sometimes you just do one to many and your done. I love yours better, and this is why. The linen colour is so up my alley with there putty tones, and winter white in the crocheted embellisment to each heart.

They really look great in there clustered grouping.
You have hearts you can be proud of.

  10. Your hearts are just beautiful, Debbie! I love that you repurposed the linen from a runner, and the doilies you added along with the crinkly seam binding are perfection:) Even prettier than the heart in the magazine!! I just love natural linen, and once bought a pair of linen pants at the thrift store, just to use for crafting projects. They were a size 4, which I will never see again!!!!

  19. Morning. Saturday was a very snowy day and i just kept warm and cooked and did some crocheting. I also cut out a pattern of a bunny that I have had for years. You remember those sweet Country Bunnies? As I got the first nudge after seeing your Bunnies makeover! So I feel another wave of inspiration coming on!
I have never seen that crinkle ribbon-- where have I been?
Thank you for a great idea once again!
I always have to tell myself that we really do not have any real original ideas, as the Word tells us there is nothing new under the sun, So we need each other to inspire us to great heights, Even hearts and bunnies...
