Vintage pie safe, and wire sieve

Hello lovelies~~~It's that time of the week...White Wednesday at Faded Charm. I wanted to show you the vintage pie safe, and sieve I found at the flea market this past weekend.  The pie safe is metal, and has two shelves inside. I haven't painted it, because I love all the chips in the white paint...seems to add to the character of the piece.  The wire sieve is really sweet...LOVE the chippy paint, and rust spots!
I'll be posting about the other items I found at the flea market soon....LOTS of neat "stuff"!!!
Be sure to visit Faded Charm to see all the other contributions to White Wednesday.
Have a great night everyone.

Flower frogs, and a mirror.

Good morning all you bloggers out there! I truly hope you had an enjoyable weekend!
I was soooooooo blessed to be able to spend three days with my BFF Laurie, from Heaven's Walk.
We shopped antique stores, vintage shops, and a HUGE, huge, antique/flea market. We both found the most awesome vintage "stuff". It was such a wonderful time being with my soul sister...looking for pieces that we love decorating our houses with.
We  were hunting for flower frogs...and wooohoooo, did we find them!
We also found lamps, screens, wire baskets, seed bags and grain sacks of all kinds, doors, windows, and many other wonderful things we couldn't pass up.
I have a bunch of posts coming up, showing the great items we brought home.
Today I'm sharing the flower frogs, and a sweet little vintage mirror.

Cute, huh?  You get a sneek peak at the screens we found too. Funny story that goes with that upcoming post....we both got a set of these beauties.
Well, it's time to get out on the boat for the day.  Too hot to NOT be on the water.
Enjoy your day lovies.

Still holding on.....

Well, it's late summer here at the lakehouse, but we still have a little color left in the gardens...mostly yellow...but that's okay, we'll take it.
The Menarda is spent, but was full of big old bumblers for quite a while.
The little Mexican daisies are still going strong, as well as the black eyed Susan's.

I love the yellow flowers. They are such happy little fellas. They make the transition to Autumn a little easier.

It won't be long, and the flowers will be gone. The boats will be coming out of the water shortly after Labor Day. Hunting season will be starting up..and the geese will be flying over.
Until then...I'm holding on.  As long as the weather holds, I'll be outside, and out on the boat, enjoying the lake.  I'm not ready to let go of summer just yet...so I'm NOT putting the suntan lotion away...at least not for a couple of weeks anyway.
Enjoy your weekend....get outside and soak up some sun!

After a whole day of clouds, this evening has turned out to be quite nice. The sun finally came out..just in time for supper.
It's a lot cooler today. Very pleasant temps as a matter of fact.
I'm hoping that this weather holds for a while. The cool nights are so much better for sleeping.
Hopefully the weather where you are is nice.
I'm sharing this with Susan, at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Check out all the other tablescapes....you won't be disappointed.
Have a wonderful summer evening!

Message in a bottle

Hello everyone~~~Did you have a good weekend? I worked yesterday, but had today off. We spent the entire afternoon out on the boat. It was a bit windy out there, but wonderful all the same.
Did you ever see that Kevin Costner movie about the message in the bottle?  It's so good, yet soooo sad.
I used to think I would find a message inside a bottle when I stayed at my grandparents house at the lake. I would check the shore every now and then...looking for my treasure. I also used to pretend to be a mermaid. I'd keep my feet together as I swam under water, bobbing up and down like a dolphin. Wearing a swim mask was the BEST! I could see the sun shining beams of light down into the water, and bouncing off the sand below. I wanted to live down there...under the water. In the early evening, when the sun was still above the horizon, I would lay on my stomach at the end of the dock...looking straight down into the water.... Watching the fish and turtles swim right below. It was a magical time.
I still sit and watch the sun bounce off the trees as it reflects off the water in the evening hours.
Oh yeah...the movie about the message in the bottle.  Every time I watch that movie, I notice all of the windows in the beach house. Every sill is filled with beautiful colored bottles of all sizes...and shells, lots of shells, and sea glass.
Filling my own window sills with these same treasures gives me the feeling of living by the sea. I LOVE the blue and green bottles and jars the best! As the sun comes through the windows, and the bottles, the room fills with the colors of the sea.
I think back to those days at my grandparent's house on the water...all those childhood dreams and wishes.
I feel so blessed to live here at the lakehouse.  It's not the sea...but it's the next best thing.
Have a wonderful Monday!

Gentle Thunder

I can hear it.....the gentle roll of thunder in the distance.
When I was a child, the sound of an approaching storm caused fear in my soul. I knew that something was coming. Something dreadful.
It's different now. Watching the clouds roll, and dip...changing form as the wind pushes them along brings a feeling of anticipation of what's to come. It was still calm...before the storm. But I knew that something was coming.
I watched as the dark clouds advanced this morning... over taking the bright sky. Knowing that the sun was still there...above it all.
I knew, as the thunder became louder, and the clouds let go of the droplets of water, that the storm was coming ever closer.
But there was no fear...no dread.
As the tree tops began to sway, and the water began to move, I heard a voice.  Deep down in my spirit. So quiet, I almost missed it....this too shall pass.
Sometimes the storms of life come over us with a vegeance...the circumstances seem to boil and churn, causing fear and confusion.
Leaving us in the darkness, and furry of the impending doom.
Then....in the midst of it all....you hear....be still, and know that I am God.
HIS comfort pours over us like the rain. We can endure the storm, and know that
joy comes in the morning.
There might be debris from the storm, but we are still standing..
We can look up, and realize that the Son is still above the clouds.
He never leaves us, nor forsakes us. He is always there....riding out the storm with us.
Thinking of Kathy and Dave at Sweet Up North Mornings.
In remembrance of my late husband...our 37th anniversary would have been this month.

Evening at the lakehouse

Hi my friends in blogland~~~it's one of those quiet nights here at the lakehouse. It's very still, and the water is smooth as glass. All I hear are crickets outside singing their summer songs. Once in awhile a dove will coo with it's quiet grace.
The hubby is working tonight...so I'm alone with my thoughts.
The cloud cover is heavy, so the sunset wasn't visible. But..that's okay, because there is that hazy grey effect settling in over the water.
The neighbors lights are just starting to come on.
I love this time of night. It's so peaceful. Even without the sun, it's beautiful.
This is the perfect time to bask in God's glory....feeling His presence...being surrounded by His love and mercy.
It just doesn't get any better than this.
In His Love,
Debbie

White obsession

I've changed to the new blogger format, but haven't figured out how to use it yet!!!

I am all over the place with this!!LOL Hopefully I'll get it figured out sooner or later.
Since it's time for White Wednesday over at Faded Charm, I thought I'd share the next mirror to grace the walls here at the lakehouse.
I seem to be obsessed with painting vintage mirror frames white! then hanging them in the living room.
If this keeps up, it will look like a fun house in here.
I think it's safe to say that shouldn't be a problem since I have NO wall space left in here!
Do you find yourself skipping from one obsession to another?
First I was painting every piece of trim, and wall in here white. Then buying pieces of furniture to paint white. Then buying white curtains, and making white curtains. Covering furniture with white. Making white covers for all the pillows. Painting all the picture frames....white. Cupboards...white. White lamps. White bedding. Tables, chairs, entertainment center...now it's mirrors.
Once winter gets here...I'll be cracking open more cans of white paint to do the bead board in the upstairs bathroom.
Then it's the stairway.....
Okay, I'm sure you are bored with my "white" obsession by now.
I hope you like the vintage mirror where it is....I do.
Don't forget to go over to Faded Charm and see all of the other "white" obsessed people's posts.
Have a great evening everybody!

Vintage vignette

Hello everyone~~~I trust your weekend went well. We had company, and spent time out on the boat...which is always a great time!
Sunday evening our dear friends came over for dinner.
The weather was good, so everything was wonderful for all of us!

I put together a little vignette in an enamel basket over the weekend. I love using vintage towels in the bathroom, so this basket worked well for displaying a few of them.

Yard sale wicker

Oh my~~~~It took sooooo long to get this post going. Still having problems. I will try to respond to all the comments from the previous two posts by tomorrow.
I'm sorry about my last post being so negative...I was just so frustrated...still am.
Anyway....I found a couple of wicker pieces on Friday at a yard sale. The settee was only $30.00.
Two other ladies were there, and tried taking it..even after I paid for it!!!
Who knew yard sales were so brutal????
I covered the cushion with linen, and added one of my vintage linen envelope pillows I made, and another vintage sham from a different yard sale.
The chair came with the desk below. I like the chair, but it sits very low...even with a cushion. I am using one of the wicker chairs I found while "vintage" shopping with Laurie from Heaven's Walk. So I just added two pillows I made from more of my vintage linen, and put this one in the living room.

I LOVE this desk! It is in perfect shape. The drawers are great for holding all of my "stuff". The desk I was using had only one small drawer in the front. I am now using that behind the sofa. It is filled with pics of the grandkiddos.
Oh no!! I just noticed the wicker lamp shade is slanted...don't look at it.
So...this is my little corner where I blog. OR...try to blog.
I am so happy with all the white wicker. The price on the desk with the chair was only $35.00.
I thought that was a great price.
Now I must go back and respond to the comments on my previous posts.
Thank you for being patient while I try to work some kinks out with my blog.
Hope your weekend was nice. Mine was wonderful...we had company...quite a bit, as a matter of fact. LOVED it!!!!
Toodles.
Debbie

Inspired by the sea

G-day mates~~~today's tablescape is inspired by the sea.

A bottle for a message. A lantern to guide the boats in the dark. And shells, LOTS of shells.

It seems summer is slipping through my fingers at a rapid pace. I want to hold on as tight as I can, for as long as possible. Setting the table with objects given up by the sea felt appropriate today.

The glass clam shell dishes were found at an early summer garage sale. Perfect for my set of shell dishes. The napkins are paper(something I rarely use). They have shells on them, so I had to buy them!!!

The glasses were picked up at a local thrift store....more shells. The little votive cups are from a cute gift shop at the lake.

I just love these dishes. The bowls(not shown) are large enough for a big bowl of chowder. Seeing it's so extremely hot and humid, we will forgo the soup.

Bleached shells are favorites of mine. They look so crisp and clean.

A dear friend recently gave me the lantern. It fits perfectly with all the beachy whites here at the lakehouse.

I am soooo going to miss having our meals out on the sun porch. When cold weather hits, the porch will be closed for the season.

That's why I'm holding on to summer for as long as possible. Watching the boats as they pass by. Seeing the sun dance off the water. Hearing the gulls as they sweep overhead. Listening to the soft sounds of the wind chimes. Feeling the warm summer breezes as they pass through the screens....sigh....

It's not over until the fat lady sings...and I ain't hearin' any music!!!!!

I'll be sharing with Tablescape Thursday over at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch. You must pay her a visit, and see all of the inspirational settings the other bloggers share.

Have a wonderful summer evening.

Hugs,

Debbie

Beads, and more beads

Hello dear bloggers!! it's been almost a week since I've been able to post on my blog. It was awful! Not being able to check out my favorite blogs...I think I went through withdrawal. Tomorrow the cable guy will be back to replace our router....YES!!!!!!!!!!
My sweet friend, Debbie(you know..the one that shops for me while she's in Florida) just gave me a few strings of white beads.
I love these large ones...they remind me of a strand of pearls. They look so nice on the vintage dressing screen in the guest room...sigh.
Debbie also found some sparkley beads for my dining room light. I added two strands along the bottom of the light.
The crystal beads I strung myself, because they were in pieces. I found them, along with the large drops at a thrift store a few weeks ago.
I posted pictures a while back of the glass beads and crystals.

I am happy with the addition of the white strands. Looks a little more...chandelier-ish with more
pretties.
I am sharing this post with Faded Charm for White Wednesday. It's always fun to see what other bloggers are sharing for the event.

I am so happy to be up and running again. I missed you all!!!!
I hope your evening is enjoyable.
Hugs to every one of you!
