A bottle for a message. A lantern to guide the boats in the dark. And shells, LOTS of shells.
It seems summer is slipping through my fingers at a rapid pace. I want to hold on as tight as I can, for as long as possible. Setting the table with objects given up by the sea felt appropriate today.
The glass clam shell dishes were found at an early summer garage sale. Perfect for my set of shell dishes. The napkins are paper(something I rarely use). They have shells on them, so I had to buy them!!!
The glasses were picked up at a local thrift store....more shells. The little votive cups are from a cute gift shop at the lake.

I just love these dishes. The bowls(not shown) are large enough for a big bowl of chowder. Seeing it's so extremely hot and humid, we will forgo the soup.
Bleached shells are favorites of mine. They look so crisp and clean.
A dear friend recently gave me the lantern. It fits perfectly with all the beachy whites here at the lakehouse.

I am soooo going to miss having our meals out on the sun porch. When cold weather hits, the porch will be closed for the season.
That's why I'm holding on to summer for as long as possible. Watching the boats as they pass by. Seeing the sun dance off the water. Hearing the gulls as they sweep overhead. Listening to the soft sounds of the wind chimes. Feeling the warm summer breezes as they pass through the screens....sigh....
It's not over until the fat lady sings...and I ain't hearin' any music!!!!!
I'll be sharing with Tablescape Thursday over at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch. You must pay her a visit, and see all of the inspirational settings the other bloggers share.
Have a wonderful summer evening.
Hugs,
Debbie

Hi there Debbie,
ReplyDeleteThis is just so pretty! I adore shells, and I really love all of your beautiful dishes. How cool that you found the glass clam shell plates at a garage sale! Ok, even though it is so darn hot here, you are making me hungry for some clam chowder! Have a great night :)
Love the shells! So pretty with all of the white.
ReplyDeleteOhh I love this. The colors, the dishes are to die for. I love the clear shell dish the best! So fun. Stop by and enter my centerpiece Wednesday on my blog. Great ideas!

I love your style, Debbie. Crisp, white and so summery. I would love a bowl of chowder right about now and I'm not even picky... love Manhattan and New England, but need a bit of Tabasco. Sorry it's so humid, it's cool here, in the very low 80s. Good chowder weather for sure ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your home on the lake ~ perfect!

I love your tablescape! So serene and pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove your summer whites~ so crisp & cool...we've been so intolerably hot, I have to admit to looking forward to fall, but porch living is great :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely! I don't blame you, I feel the same way. But there is still lots of summer left. September is one of the best months here, the weather is fabulous and the crowds gone!
ReplyDeleteLove your dishes and glasses too!
Your table looks great; good job!

The textures on this table are so nice. The colors are so light and summery. Just beautiful . I love you blog!
ReplyDeleteHey Debbie- What a beautiful table you have set tonight. I sure missed you while you were gone...and am so glad you are back and playing with us here! lol Okay-do the glasses have shells on them too? I LOVE the plates~what a great find!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you-I don't often use paper napkins either...nor do I like paper plates. I don't mind eating on them at someone else's house but I like to use real plates and silverware and cloth napkins.
I love all your shells! I lived in Florida for several years and because they were so avaialable I don't think I really appreciated them until I moved to the Midwest. Yeah-it was kind of a V-8 moment! I used to walk Sanibel Island all the time and pick the shells up. Sure wish I had that collection today!
Happy Thursday to you~ Diana
Hey sweet sis .... I want to move in with you in your adorable, summery, beautiful lakehouse. lol! Sooooo pretty! You done good, sweetie!!

ReplyDeleteI love this tablescape. The soft blends of white-on-white is delightful. I hope that summer lingers for you this year. My daughter is a singer-songwriter. Her new CD 'Orchid' has a song that I think you might really like..."Broken Things." You can find her & hear her music at www.kcclifford.com Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
